It's not on the ocean
There is no view
It's loud
It's small
It's also the best fish in town.
Sit at the bar if you can. -

Place gets packed so try and make reservations. Even with reservations, we ended up waiting for about 20 minutes.
I tried their famous smoked oysters and must sadly say, I personally didn't enjoy them as much as I thought I would. The oysters still had a bit of shell pieces which took away from the pleasure of eating them.
The staff work like a well oiled machine and it kinda felt a bit hurried... all the various dishes we had were good but not memorable enough to make me salivate as I write this review. As for larger groups. Note that they don't do split bills nor do they take more than two or three credit cards per table so prepare accordingly. -

We had light lunch that was filling cuz portions were good. Fresh bread was fresh and soft . We shared:
$14.95 Fried Calamari. Just a little bit oily but ok
Light batter, needed more salt or seasoning.
6.95 Clam chowder soup bowl. Tasty but needed more
clams -

wowza! Monterey Fish House may not look like much from outside, but once you step inside you are greeted to culinary perfection. You can tell the seafood is really fresh and everything is seasoned and cooked perfectly. I had the prawn pasta and a crab cake. The pasta had massive shrimp and clams. The pasta was homemade and cooked perfectly. The crab cake was the best crab cake I've ever had. There was no breading that I could detect, it really was just crab with a delicious hollandaise. Yum! My friends also enjoyed their dishes. My only small complaint was that the bread was cold and the butter wasn't soft.
Inside decor is really nice, but please note it's fairly loud in here. Highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time since lines can be long. -

Second visit... consistency is important & this restaurant delivers. Start with a reservation (phone option only), comfy table, attentive server & busser, delicious menu, & fair pricing.
What could go wrong? Nothing. The food was excellently prepared & presented. We never felt rushed & the bathroom was clean. No need to change anything, so I'll continue to recommend & eat at your restaurant - a piece of Monterey history.
